OP Caylor

In 1880 Caylor organized the Cincinnati Reds and played a series against Spink’s St. Louis Browns, a series that begat the American Association. A sedate, dignified man, not close to the players, he was baseball editor of the Cincinnati Enquirer for 20 years. Even though he was part owner and manager of the New York Mets, he was barred from the 1887 American Association meeting because he was also a writer.
