Gordy Coleman

A football player at Duke, the 6’3″ 210-lb lefthanded hitter won the Triple Crown and was league MVP with Mobile (Southern Association) in 1959. He became Cincinnati’s regular first baseman in the early 1960s. In his first year in the lineup, he hit 26 HR to play a key role in the Reds’ drive to the 1961 NL pennant. In 1962 he hit 28 in his only other productive season.
