Cunningham was a gifted defensive centerfielder who patrolled the deep reaches of the Polo Grounds in the early 1920s. His acrobatic catch of Babe Ruth‘s 450-foot drive, after circling the Eddie Grant monument, saved Art Nehf‘s 1-0 shutout in Game Three of the 1923 WS.
