The author of the Jim Piersall biography, Fear Strikes Out, Hirshberg also wrote books about Carl Yastrzemski, Frank Howard, and Bob Cousy. A Boston University graduate, he worked for the Boston Post and Herald before becoming a book and magazine writer.
