Bruce Howard

Because of roster limits, the White Sox had to decide which of two young pitchers to keep at the beginning of the 1963 season. They squared off in an intrasquad game. Howard won and remained with the team, becoming a spot starter from 1965 to 1967. He used a slip pitch and sinker effectively, but was troubled by wildness and eventually left the majors. The other young pitcher, after being released by the Sox, signed with the Tigers. His name was Denny McLain.
