Frank Gabler

The Great Gabbo was known for sounding off, and for fistfights on the mound with Tex Carleton. In the minors, his skull was fractured by a line drive. In 1936 Gabler boasted he’d win ten games. Eddie Brannick, the Giants’ secretary, offered him a $100 suit if he won eight. Gabler helped his team to the NL pennant by winning nine, and collected on the bet.
