Joe Ginsberg

The well-traveled Ginsberg was a second- or third-string catcher except for 1951-52 with Detroit. Yankee Vic Raschi wasn’t amused when Ginsburg, a clubhouse comedian, homered to spoil his June 13, 1952 no-hit bid. He was the starting catcher in the Mets’ first home game; as a result, his name has been in the “How to Score” section of Shea Stadium programs for over twenty years.
