Stephen O Grauley

In nearly 60 years with the Philadelphia Inquirer, Grauley covered Connie Mack‘s Athletics from their inception until after Mack’s retirement. At the 1951 A’s home opener, Mack chose Grauley as his box-seat companion for the first Athletics game without Mack as manager. Sog (his initials) played on the first baseball team fielded by Temple University, in the 1890s. As a sportswriter, he was known for his factual and accurate writing in an age of flamboyant phrasing. He became sports editor of the Inquirer in 1924. He was a charter member of the BBWAA.
