Zane Grey

A star outfielder while studying dentistry at the University of Pennsylvania, Grey was signed by Ed Barrow for Wheeling in the Interstate League in 1895. He got as far as Toronto of the Eastern League in 1899 before beginning his dental practice in New York. His brother, Romer, played briefly with the Pirates. Grey wrote 86 books, mostly westerns, but three were baseball novels: The Shortstop, The Redheaded Outfield, and The Young Pitcher.
