Harry Gumbert

The 6’2″ 185-lb Gumbert began his fifteen-year career as a starter. He reached double figures in wins from 1936 to 1941 and again in 1943-1944, including an 11-3 mark in 1936 and an 18-11 record in 1939. He spent 1945 in the military and by 1947 was strictly a reliever, totaling 48 saves over his career.

Gumbert appeared in WS for the Giants in 1936 and 1937 and the Cardinals in 1942. He pitched in a total of six games, allowing 12 hits and five walks with a 27.00 ERA.

Gumbert led the NL in games pitched in 1948 (61), relief wins in 1947 (10) and 1948 (10), relief loses in ’47 (10) and ’48 (8), and saves in ’48 (17).
