Henry P Edwards

An early dean of baseball writers, Edwards became sports editor of the Cleveland Recorder in 1898. In 1901 he joined the Cleveland Plain Dealer. He was credited with helping several sandlot players be discovered by ML teams, including Rube Marquard and Roger Peckinpaugh. In 1928 he organized the AL service bureau, which he managed from its beginning until 1942. One of the founders of the BBWAA, he served as secretary-treasurer for 15 years.
