George Earnshaw

Moose, a genial 6’4″ 210-lb righthander from Swarthmore College, teamed with Lefty Grove on the Philadelphia A’s to form the game’s premier pitching duo for the years 1929-31 (79 wins by Grove, 67 by Earnshaw). He won a league-high 24 in 1929, but twice led the league in walks. A basic fastball and curveball pitcher, Earnshaw said, “I didn’t fool around with those junk pitches.” He won a Bronze Star as a WWII naval officer, then scouted and coached for the Phillies.
