Petty was “tried and found wanting” in a famous mock trial by the Big Four, the central committee of Brooklyn’s Daffiness Boys, because he didn’t know the meaning of the word “ignominy.” In 1926 he led the Dodger staff with 17 wins, while tying for the NL lead with 17 losses.
