Jimmy Burke

Burke was a St. Louis native who not only played in his hometown as a scrappy, light-hitting infielder (1903-05), but also managed both the Cardinals (’05) and Browns (1918-20). His ML teams never had a winning season, but he managed successfully in the minors and later coached for Joe McCarthy’s 1929 Cubs pennant-winners and 1932 Yankee champions. A 1933 stroke left him an invalid.
