John B Day

Founder of the New York Giants in the NL in 1883, Day began with the New York Mets of the American Association, with Jim Mutrie. He formed the Giants by bringing most of the Troy club to New York and won two pennants. A year after moving into the Polo Grounds site he lost most of his players to the Brotherhood’s New York club in 1890 and went broke, holding various jobs with the NL thereafter.
