Dave Duncan

Signed for a reported $65,000 bonus in 1963, Duncan hit for power, not average (46 HR, California League, 1966) and didn’t win a job with the A’s until they moved to Oakland in 1968. Batting just .126 in 1969, and often on Marine reserve duty, Duncan finally became a regular in 1971. After his military duty was over, Duncan grew his hair down his back. Following a career-high 19 HR (batting .218) for the A’s in 1972, he was traded to Cleveland. After knee injuries forced his retirement, he became a continually-employed ML pitching coach.
