Fred Snodgrass

The feisty, quick-tempered Snodgrass was a regular on three consecutive Giant pennant winners (1911-13). In the 1912 World Series, the centerfielder made the “$30,000 muff,” dropping a routine fly ball in the tenth inning of the deciding game and helping the Red Sox to a 3-2 victory. Apparently, only John McGraw remembered the spectacular catch Snodgrass made on the very next play. McGraw gave Snodgrass a generous raise the next season.
