When was the first modern Baseball Word Series?

In 1903 the two “major” leagues finally agreed to meet each other in a post-season series. That season the American League pennant winner, Boston, defeated the NL champion, Pittsburgh. By 1905 the series was an annual event and officially sanctioned by the leagues.
