Rube Walberg

Walberg was a consistent, durable pitcher who spent over a decade with the Athletics. Yet he fell short of greatness, partly because he was wild, often walking more batters than he struck out. In his one 20-win season, 1931, he led the league with 291 innings pitched but worked just three innings in relief in the World Series. He started only one of the 18 WS games the A’s played in 1929-31, losing it 5-0 to the Cardinals in 1930. He was a reliever and spot starter with the Red Sox from 1934 through 1937 and pitched his last game at age forty-one.
