A baseball writer in Philadelphia for 26 years, Weart was with the Times from 1891 to 1909 and the Evening Telegraph from 1909 to 1917. He became the Philadelphia correspondent for The Sporting News. One of the organizers of the BBWAA, he was its first secretary and held that post until his death.
