Fred Whitfield

“Wingy” was a dangerous lefthanded hitter who hit 93 home runs for Cleveland from 1963 to 1967. The underrated first baseman won his nickname for the way he threw. In 1965, he hit 26 HR and drove in 90 runs while batting .293. Though his average withered to .241 in 1966, he hit 27 HR; when it waned to .218 in 1967, Cleveland traded him to Cincinnati, where he pinch-hit and played first base.
