Kaiser was one of many young players hurt by the rule of the 1950s that forced bonus signees to rust on the ML roster instead of playing in the minors. He won 49 of 50 high school games, including seven no-hitters and two perfect games. In his first start with the Cubs he pitched a two-hitter, but his lack of seasoning made him generally ineffective.
