The Pirates’ leading winner in 1939, when he went 14-17 and led the NL in losses, Klinger returned from WWII Navy duty to lead the AL with nine saves for the 1946 Red Sox. He was the pitcher when Enos Slaughter made his fabled mad dash home to win Game Seven of the ’46 WS.
