Strikeouts and throwing errors short-circuited Alexander’s ML career. Splitting the 1978 season between Oakland and Cleveland, he led all ML catchers with 27 homers but also led the ML with 166 strikeouts while batting only .225. The next year, his 18 errors led all ML catchers.
