An accomplished pianist and college bandleader at the University of Michigan, Pete opted for a baseball career at graduation. He played under his real name until 1933, then had it legally changed to Appleton. Used mainly in relief for most of his ML career, his best year was 1936, when he started 20 games for the Senators and finished 14-9.
