Doug Rau

In his first major league start, in 1972, the poised 23-year-old shut out the Cardinals on three hits. A smart hurler with a wide assortment of pitches, Rau became a consistent winner for the Dodgers, averaging more than 14 victories a season from 1973 to 1978, and was usually a fast starter. In 1976 he was second in ERA (2.57 to John Denny‘s 2.52) as he won a career-high 16 games. He did not recover well enough from a 1979 rotator-cuff injury to successfully continue his career.
