The two-time minor league batting champion shuttled between Vancouver (Pacific Coast League) and the Brewers for three seasons, never hitting below .325 at Vancouver, before a 1986 trade brought him to San Diego. He set career highs in at-bats (350), home runs (12), and RBI (54) in 1988, but the following season was traded with John Kruk to the Philadelphia Phillies for Chris James.
