An erratic hitter with blazing speed, Redus was third in the AL with 52 steals for Chicago in 1987, and twice stole 48 bases with the Reds. He had career-highs in HR (17) and RBI (51) as a rookie with the Reds in 1983. He hit two of his four major league grand slams in a span of five days in 1988, and was a part-time player after his acquisition by the Pirates in August 1988. His stolen base totals dropped drastically with his reduced playing time, and he had a mere four in two seasons after signing as a free agent with the Rangers.
