Rud Rennie

After covering a variety of beats, Rennie began writing sports in 1925 for the New York Tribune (later the Herald-Tribune). His simple, declarative leads could be masterpieces of an understatement. He began his account of Lavagetto’s double that spoiled Bill Bevens‘s no-hitter in the ’47 WS: “Harry Lavagetto, a pinch hitter, made a timely hit yesterday.”
