Rolfe was a capable leadoff man and reliable third baseman for some of the best Yankee teams. During his seven years as a regular, they won six pennants and five World Championships. Although he suffered from painful stomach ulcers, he hit .300 or better four times, with a career-high .329 in 1939 when he led the AL in hits (213), doubles (46), and runs scored (139). He scored at least 100 runs every year he was a regular. Twice he led AL third basemen in fielding. A Dartmouth graduate, he served as Yale baseball coach after leaving the Yankees. From 1949 to mid-1952 he managed the Tigers, bringing them in second in 1950.
