Thomas was a quick, 5’9″ 165-lb catcher who had his best season (six HR, 31 RBI) in 1957 as a Giants rookie. In one of the worst trades in Phillies history, the Puerto Rican-born Thomas was obtained with Ruben Gomez after the 1958 season for pitcher Jack Sanford, who in 1962 won 24 games for the Giants.
