Wayne Twitchell

Twitchell’s best season by far came in 1973, when he went 13-9 for the last-place Phillies; his 2.50 ERA was the second best in the NL, and he was third in fewest hits per nine innings (6.93) and tied for third in shutouts (5). He pitched a scoreless inning in the All-Star Game. Except for 1976, when he went 3-1, 1.75, mostly in relief, 1973 was his only winning season and his only ERA below 4.00. He suffered a knee injury playing basketball in November 1973 and was out until the end of May 1974.
