Ray Sanders

A Missouri native, Sanders was impressive as a Cardinal farmhand, allowing St. Louis to trade Johnny Mize to the Giants in 1941. Sanders played first base for Cardinal pennant winners in 1942, 1943, and 1944; he reached career highs of 12 HR, 102 RBI, and a .295 batting average in 1944 while leading NL first basemen in fielding. Sold to the Braves in 1946 so Stan Musial could play first base, Sanders suffered an arm injury that August, after which he played in only 15 ML games.
