Dick Schofield

Schofield led the Midwest League in hitting (.360 at Danville) in 1982 and hit .284 with 94 RBI with Edmonton (Pacific Coast League) the following year before earning the Angels starting shortstop job in 1984. He is extremely quick, and has surprising power for a 5’10” shortstop, but has never hit better than .251 in the ML. On August 29, 1986, his grand slam on an 0-2 pitch with two out in the ninth gave the Angels a 13-12 win over Detroit, after they had trailed 12-5 entering the inning. His father, Dick, was also a longtime ML shortstop.
