Don Schwall

Schwall, a 6’6″ All-Big Eight basketball star at the University of Oklahoma, was signed by the Red Sox and won 1961 AL Rookie of the Year honors by going 15-7 (3.22). He pitched three innings in the second 1961 All-Star Game. A disappointment in 1962 (9-15), Schwall was sent to Pittsburgh in a November trade for slugger Dick Stuart. He went 6-12 in 1963, and was made a reliever, recording a career-best 2.92 ERA while winning nine games for the 1965 Pirates.
