Sierra debuted with the Rangers at the age of 20 in 1986, and in 1987 the right fielder became the youngest player to hit 30 HR in a season since Tony Conigliaro in 1965. A compact, powerful switch-hitter who hits equally well from either side of the plate, Sierra also drove in 109 runs in 1987 and set a Rangers record with 69 extra-base hits. In 1988, he became only the third player in club history to be named team MVP two consecutive years, batting .254 with 23 HR and 91 RBI. In his All-Star 1989 season, he led the AL with 119 RBI and broke his own team record with 78 extra-base hits while hitting .306 with 29 HR and 101 runs scored.
