Primarily a middle reliever, St. Claire never spent a full season in the majors. He saved seven games for the Expos in 1987, and in 1988 was traded to the Reds with Jeff Reed and Herm Winningham for Tracy Jones and Pat Pacillo. After the trade he continued shunting between the minors and the bigs, never making more than 19 appearances. His father, Ebba, was a major league catcher in the early 1950s.
