March 1George Steinbrenner resumes his role as general partner of the Yankees following his suspension from baseball for conduct unbecoming an owner because of his dealings with Howard Spira, reportedly a former employee of Yankees outfielder Dave Winfield. Winfield’s contract with New York required Steinbrenner to make a sizable annual contribution to the outfielder’s charitable foundation. Steinbrenner suspected the foundation was being badly run and had paid Spira for information that might have relived the Yankees’ owner of his obligation. Steinbrenner and Winfield eventually settle the dispute.
March 6John Wetteland‚ Expos closer‚ fractures his right big toe after kicking a batting-practice screen in spring training.
March 10The Giants hire Sherry Davis as public address announcer at Candlestick Park‚ making her the first female to hold the position in a major league ballpark.
March 14The Reds announce that Schottzie 02‚ the St. Bernard owned by Reds president Marge Schott‚ is being banned from the field at Riverfront Stadium for the season.
March 22Cleveland pitchers Steve Olin and Tim Crews are killed‚ and Bob Ojeda is seriously injured‚ when the motorboat in which they are riding strikes a pier on Little Lake Nellie in Florida. Crews and Olin are the first active major leaguers to die since Thurm Munson in 1979. The Dodgers‚ for whom Crews played the previous 6 yerars and was very popular‚ will retire his #52.
March 27The Marlins trade 3B Gary Scott and a player to be named to the Reds in exchange for P Chris Hammond.

The Cubs put 2B Ryne Sandberg (broken hand) and SS Shawon Dunston (lower back rehab) on the DL. The two will miss opening day for the first time in 9 years together.
March 30The Padres trade OF Darrin Jackson to the Blue Jays in exchange for outfielders Derek Bell and Stoney Briggs.
March 31NL president Bill White announces his resignation‚ which will take place in March of next year.

The Cardinals trade P Mark Clark and SS Juan Andujar to the Indians in exchange for OF Mark Whiten. Whiten will have his best season for Cards in ’93.

April 2In the final Spring training game for the Red Sox‚ Frank Viola and Corey Bailey combine to no-hit the Phillies‚ winning 10-0.
April 3The Rockies sign free agent vet Dale Murphy. The two-time MVP will hit just .143 in 26 games for the Rocks.
April 5At Joe Robbie Stadium‚ the Florida Marlins make their NL debut with a 6-3 win over the Dodgers. Jeff Conine goes 4-for-4 while Charlie Hough gets the win. Joe DiMaggio throws out the first ball.

At Shea Stadium‚ the Colorado Rockies make their NL debut‚ losing to the Mets by a score of 3-0. Andres Galarraga gets a pair of hits for Colorado but is thrown out in the 9th trying to stretch a single. David Nied takes the loss‚ giving up a homer to Bobby Bonilla.

The First Couple is 0-for-2 as President Clinton throws out the first ball in Baltimore and then watches the Orioles lose‚ 7-4‚ to Texas. In Chicago‚ Hillary Clinton throws out the first ball‚ But Greg Maddux‚ signed by the Braves as a free agent‚ allows five hits in 8 1/3 innings to beat his old team‚ the Chicago Cubs‚ 1-0.
April 6In his NL debut‚ Cubs P Juan Guzman takes a perfect game into the 8th inning against Atlanta‚ finally settling for a 1-hit‚ 1-0 victory. Otis Nixon‘s single with 2 outs in the 9th is the Braves’ only hit.

The Phils Mitch Williams changes his uniform number from 28 to 99‚ the highest number in history. He picks up a save today and vows to throw at 99 mph every outing.
April 8Indians 2B Carlos Baerga becomes the 1st player in major league history to homer from both sides of the plate in the same inning‚ connecting in the 7th inning of Cleveland’s 15-5 win over the Yankees.
April 9The Rockies defeat the Expos‚ 11-4‚ before 80‚227 fans in the first major league game played at Mile High Stadium in Colorado.

Chicago’s Bo Jackson homers on his 1st swing after coming back from hip replacement surgery. The White Sox‚ however‚ lose to the Yankees‚ 11-6.

Brewers OF Darryl Hamilton sets an AL record by handling his 541st consecutive chance without an error. Milwaukee defeats the Athletics‚ 6-5.
April 11Expos 2B Mike Lansing gets 5 hits in Montreal’s 19-9 win over the Rockies. Lansing had been inserted into the lineup when Delino DeShields came down with chicken pox.
April 13Cardinals’ P Lee Smith sets an all-time major league record with his 358th career save‚ breaking Jeff Reardon‘s mark. Smith preserves St. Louis’ 9-7 win over the Dodgers.

The Tigers defeat the Athletics‚ 20-4. Rob Deer‚ Mickey Tettleton‚ and Travis Fryman each contribute 3-run homers. Detroit collects 18 hits and leaves 12 on base.
April 14P Graeme Lloyd and C Dave Nilsson form the 1st all-Australian battery in major league history in the Brewers’ 12-2 loss to the Angels. The 2 Aussies pitch in the 9th‚ when the Angels score 6 runs‚ after scoring 5 in the 8th.

Padres 2B Tim Teufel strokes 5 hits in a losing cause as San Diego falls to the Pirates‚ 11-7.
April 15Boston’s Andre Dawson slams the 400th HR of his career in the Red Sox 4-3 win over the Indians. Boston scores a pair of runs in the 13th off Eric Plunk for the W.

The Tigers best Oakland‚ 3-2‚ giving manager Sparky Anderson his 2‚000th career win. Only 6 men in the history of the game have won more.
April 17Seven players score as the Tigers score 20 runs in a game for the 2nd time this week‚ beating the Mariners‚ 20-3. Rob Deer is 1-for-2 and scores 4 runs‚ while Fryman has 4 hits and scores 5 runs. Kreuter adds 4 hits and 3 runs and Thurman paces the Bengals with 4 RBIs. Hampton takes the loss with 2.1 innings of work.

In the Orioles’ 7-5 loss to the Angels‚ Baltimore winds up with 3 runners on 3rd base in a rare display of dumb baseball. With the bases loaded and one out‚ OF Mike Devereaux hits a fly ball which is trapped by CF Chad Curtis. Curtis throws home. Jeff Tackett‚ the baserunner on 3rd‚ returns to the base after running halfway home. Brady Anderson‚ who was on 2nd‚ advanced to 3rd. Chito Martinez‚ the baserunner on 1st‚ rounded 2nd and headed for 3rd. Angel C John Orton walked to 3rd where he tagged all 3 runners. Tackett was called out on a force‚ and Martinez was called out‚ completing the inning-ending double play.
April 18The game between the Giants and Braves at Candlestick Park is delayed for 5 minutes when fans shower the field with souvenir baseballs. When order is restored‚ the Giants go on to defeat the Braves‚ 13-12 in 11 innings.
April 22Seattle’s Chris Bosio hurls a 7-0 no-hitter against the Red Sox. He walks the 1st 2 batters he faces‚ then finishes the game by retiring the last 26 Red Sox in a row.
April 23Milwaukee pitchers Cal Eldred and Jesse Orosco combine to shut out Texas on 1 hit in a 3-0 win. Eldred hurls the 1st 8 innings while Orosco pitches the 9th to get the save. Rafael Palmeiro‘s double is the only hit.
April 24In Chicago‚ the Reds smack two grand slams‚ one by Chris Sabo in the 1st inning and another by Joe Oliver in the 7th‚ to beat the Cubs‚ 15-5.

Mets P Dwight Gooden hurts his shoulder when he is struck by a golf club teammate Vince Coleman is swinging in the clubhouse.
April 27Pirates knuckler Tim Wakefield (3-2) tosses 172 pitches in defeating Atlanta‚ 6-2‚ in 11 innings. It is the most pitches thrown by a pitcher in one game in the 1990s. Fernando Valenzuela‚ in 1987‚ was the last to throw that many pitches in a game.

Yankee P Jimmy Key holds the Angels to one hit in pitching NY to a 5-0 victory. A 6th inning single by Gary DiSarcina is California’s only safety.
April 29Toronto 1B John Olerud strokes 5 hits in the Blue Jays’ 8-0 win over the Royals.
April 30Milwaukee’s Graeme Lloyd becomes the first Australian to win a major league game by defeating the Rangers‚ 5-4.

May 2Texas rolls over the Brewers‚ 13-2 collecting 15 hits. Canseco has a single‚ double and HR before leaving for a pinch runner. Protecting a 12-2 lead‚ Jeff Bronkey pitches 3 innings in relief of Nen‚ and picks up a save in his ML debut with Texas. Bronkey is the first major leaguer born in Afghanistan.

The Triple-A American Association game between Iowa and Buffalo is called because of a toxic cloud in Des Moines. The area around the stadium is evacuated when several barrels of chemicals explode during a fire‚ releasing toxic fumes.
May 4The Cubs and Rockies combine for 38 hits in an 11-inning night game at Wrigley Field. The Rockies score 4 runs in the 11th‚ then hang on for a 14-13 win over the Cubs as Willie Blair allows the 3 runs‚ including a 2-out 2 run homer by Sammy Sosa‚ to card the victory. Sosa also hit a 2-out 3-run homer in the 9th‚ and has 5 hits for the game. The Rockies counter with back-to-back homers in the 5th by Girardi and Clark‚ Hayes homers in the 6th‚ and Jim Tatum hits his 1st ML homer in the 8th-a pinch hit grand slam.
May 5In an 11-2 win over the Phillies‚ the Giants score 7 runs in the 5th inning. Darren Lewis makes all 3 outs in the frame‚ popping out and then ending the inning with a DP.
May 7Tigers 1B-C Mickey Tettleton hits HRs from both sides of the plate in Detroit’s 7-6‚ 12-inning win over the Yankees. It is the 2nd time Tettleton has turned the trick in his career. Detroit uses 3 walks and a hit to win in the 12th.

In a Triple-A game between the Omaha Royals and Oklahoma City 89ers‚ the Royals explode for 4 consecutive HRs with 2 outs in the 8th inning of their 11-4 victory. Karl Rhodes‚ Terry Shumpert‚ Russ McGinnis‚ and Bob Hamelin all connected for Omaha‚ off Gerald Alexander After the next batter made the 3rd out‚ Benny DiStefano led off the 9th for Oklahoma City with a homer‚ making 5 round-trippers in 6 batters. The Royals win‚ 11-4. May 13In the Royals 7-3 victory over the Indians‚ George Brett hits the 300th HR of his career‚ making him the 6th player with 300 homers and 3‚000 hits. Cleveland OF Albert Belle receives a 3-game suspension for charging the mound after being hit by a pitch from Hippolito Pichardo of the Royals.
May 14Colorado rookie 1B Jay Gainer hits the 1st pitch he sees in the major leagues for a HR‚ becoming the 12th major leaguer to accomplish the feat. The Reds defeat the Rockies‚ however‚ 13-5.

At San Diego in the top of the 8th‚ Matt Williams is at bat with runners on 1B and 3B. Padres pitcher Greg Harris than picks off Barry Bonds at 1B unassisted for the 2nd out.
May 15The Expos retire Rusty Staub‘s uniform prior to the game with the Mets.

In Milwaukee‚ Cleveland starter Charles Nagy (2-6) leaves the game with a shoulder injury after pitching to just two batters. Nagy will go on the DL in 2 days and undergo surgery on June 29.
May 16Seattle P Randy Johnson hurls a 1-hit‚ 7-0 victory over the Athletics. He loses his no-hitter when Lance Blankenship singles with 1 out in the 9th inning.
May 17Seattle 3B Mike Blowers hits a grand slam to pace the Mariners to a 16-9 victory over Texas. Blowers also hit a grand slam yesterday.

Philadelphia 1B John Kruk gets 5 hits in the Phillies’ 10-3 victory over Florida.
May 19Dallas Green replaces Jeff Torborg as manager of the Mets.

Toronto P Dave Stewart‚ who has won 13 of his last 14 decisions against the Red Sox‚ is pounded by Boston for 10 earned runs in 1 2/3 innings. The Red Sox hold on for a 10-5 victory.
May 2014-year-old Tommy McCoy‚ batboy for the Class A Savannah Cardinals‚ is fired by the team after the club was told by the US Department of Labor that they were in violation of child labor laws. McCoy‚ apparently‚ was staying out too late doing his job. When US Secretary of Labor Robert Reich hears the story‚ however‚ he exempts batboys and bat girls from the law. McCoy will be reinstated on May 27th.
May 22Cardinal minor leaguer Diego Ruiz is killed and teammate Eddie Williams are injured when their car slams into a cement pole. Williams‚ a catcher with Springfield (Midwest League)‚ is the driver.

B.J. Birdie‚ mascot of the Toronto Blue Jays‚ is ejected from Toronto’s game against Minnesota by umpire Jim McKean after holding his nose on a call. The Blue Jays win 7-0 over the Twins as 5 Jay pitchers record 15 strikeouts. Danny Cox(4-0)‚ in relief of Stottlemyre in the 3rd‚ is the winner. Devon White has a single‚ double‚ homer and stolen base to pace the offense.
May 24Indian rookie P Tommy Kramer hurls a 1-hitter in his 2nd major league start‚ defeating Texas‚ 4-1. Julio Franco‘s 4th inning HR is the only Ranger safety.

The Mariners defeat the Angels‚ 4-3‚ in 14 innings. In the course of the game‚ California OF Luis Polonia ties an AL record by being caught stealing 3 times‚ twice on pitchouts.

Davey Johnson replaces Tony Perez as manager of the Reds.

Only 15 fans are in the stands‚ including 2 scouts and a mascot‚ at the start of the day when the Quad City River Bandits meet the Rockford Royals in a Class A Midwest League doubleheader.
May 26Whoops! Texas OF Jose Canseco has a fly ball off the bat of Cleveland’s Carlos Martinez bounce off his head and into the stands for a HR. The Indians defeat the Rangers‚ 7-6.

Cincinnati P Tim Belcher hurls a 1-hit‚ 4-0 shutout over the Braves. A 1st inning double by Deion Sanders is Atlanta’s only hit.
May 27Mike Pierce of Shenandoah High School in Indiana hits 3 HRs in a single inning of his team’s 23-2 win over Union High School to break a record held by 34 other players.

Two homers shy of 400‚ Dale Murphy reluctantly announces his retirement before the Rockies game in Houston. The Rockies were going to release Murphy to make room for Chris Jones. Murphy hit no homers in his brief time with the Rockies.
May 28Robin Yount and the Brewers defeat George Brett and the Royals‚ 5-1‚ in the first meeting of two 3‚000-hit players since 1925.
May 29OF Jose Canseco hurls the 8th inning of the Rangers 15-1 loss to the Red Sox. He allows 3 earned runs on 3 walks and 2 singles before retiring the side.
May 30The Phils Tommy Greene belts a 2-run homer during the Phillies 18-1 blitz of the Rockies. Greene coasts to his 7th win without a loss.

June 1The Cubs trade P Heathcliff Slocumb to the Indians in exchange for minor league SS Jose Hernandez.
June 3Seattle selects SS Alex Rodriguez of Westminster Christian HS in Miami with the 1st pick in the amateur draft. Rodriguez hit .417 with 17 homers and 90 stolen bases. The Tigers‚ picking 9th‚ take speedster Matt Brunson‚ who will steal 106 bases in 329 A-level minor league games: impressive‚ considering he will hit just .200. The Brewers get pitchers Jeff D’Amico and Kelly Wunsch with two 1st round picks. Both will prove injury prone‚ but they do take SS Mark Loretta on the 7th round. The Phils take Scott Rolen on the 2nd round; the Braves select Kevin Millwood (11th) and John Rocker (18th)‚ while the Indians take Richie Sexson (24th). The Dodgers pick Wichita State pitcher Darren Dreifort‚ who will skip the minor leagues and debut on April 7‚ 1994.
June 6Baltimore’s Cal Ripken strains his right knee during a 7th inning brawl between the Orioles and Mariners‚ putting his consecutive game streak in jeopardy. He remains in the game‚ however‚ though later he says‚ “it was the closest I’ve come to not playing.” 8 players are suspended for their involvement in the melee which begins when Seattle C Bill Haselman charges the mound. The Orioles eventually win the game by a score of 5-2.

Tigers defeat the Angels‚ 11-4. In the course of the game‚ they pull off a rare feat by hitting for the cycle in a 4-hitter span. With one out in the 3rd inning‚ Travis Fryman singles‚ Cecil Fielder homers‚ Kirk Gibson doubles‚ and Chad Kreuter triples. Of the 5 California pitchers to take the mound‚ the only one to retire Detroit in order is IF Rene Gonzalez‚ who has not pitched since American Legion ball.
June 7Milwaukee P Cal Eldred defeats the Mariners‚ 5-3‚ for his 7th win of the year. This gives him 20 victories in his 1st 30 career appearances in the majors‚ tying him for the “quickest” 20 wins in history with 3 other hurlers-Boo Ferriss (1945)‚ Russ Ford (1910)‚ and Nick Maddox (1908).
June 9The Padres fire GM Joe McIlvaine and appoint 29-year-old Randy Smith as VP of baseball operations and GM‚ making him the youngest GM in the history of major league baseball.
June 11Seattle P Erik Hanson allows 4 runs on a single in the 4th inning of the Mariners’ 8-2 loss to California. With the bases loaded‚ Greg Myers strokes a single to left. Left fielder Henry Cotto boots the ball‚ then throws over the head of C Bill Haselman as 2 runs score. Hanson‚ who is backing up home‚ fires a throw over 3B Edgar Martinez‘s head allowing 2 more runners to score.

The Yankees-Brewers game at County Stadium is interrupted by some 100 sea gulls who swoop down onto the field‚ apparently in search of moths hatching in the infield and outfield grass. The Yankees eventually win the game by a score of 5-4‚ winning in the 9th on a two-run pinch homer by Kevin Maas. While no players or seagulls are hurt‚ Wade Boggs called the situation “terribly dangerous. The seagulls will return for tomorrow night’s game‚ but the Brewers will be prepared for the birds. Gus the wonder dog‚ on loan from the Wisconsin waterfowl association‚ will keep them away.

The Mets trade SS Tony Fernandez to the Blue Jays in exchange for OF Darrin Jackson.
June 12Giants’ 2B Robby Thompson gets 5 hits in SF’s 5-4 victory over the Cubs.

The first two batters for Oakland‚ Rickey Henderson and Craig Paquette‚ homer off Minnesota’s Jim Deshais‚ but that is all the scoring the A’s can muster. Minnesota wins‚ 7-2.

Down 7-0 to Doug Drabek in the 3rd inning‚ the Rockies surge back to beat Houston‚ 14-11.

Behind the pitching of freshman Brett Laxton‚ LSU wins the College World Series with an 8-0‚ 3-hit victory over Wichita State in the championship game. Laxton gets the start because Mike Sirotka pitched 9 innings against Long Beach. His 16 Ks ties a mark in a final game set by ASU’s Tom Burgess in 1967. His shutout is the first and only in a series finale since 1961‚ when SC’s Jim Withers did it. Teammate Todd Walker‚ who homers today‚ is named the Series MVP.
June 15Seattle’s Ken Griffey Jr. hits the 100th HR of his career in the Mariners’ 6-1 win over the Royals‚ making him the 6th-youngest player to reach that level in major league history.

The Braves edge the Mets‚ 2-1‚ in a pitching duel between Bret Saberhagen and Tom Glavine. Saberhagen goes 8 innings‚ allowing a home run to Sid Bream. Glavine finishes the Mets with 79 pitches‚ allowing just a HR to Darrin Jackson‚ his first hit as a Met since coming from Toronto. The Mets also lose closer John Franco‚ who walks in the winning run‚ then later punches the door to the sauna in the visiting clubhouse and needs stitches in the knuckle of his right index finger. Franco trashed a clubhouse last week‚ firing an ash tray during the tantrum.

After baseball owners have an all day meeting in Denver to discuss‚ among other things‚ bench-clearing brawls‚ they arrive at Mile high Stadium for the 7th inning‚ and witness two fights and 4 ejections. After a Ramon Martinez brushback pitch‚ Andres Galarraga singles and breaks for second clipping 2B Jody Reed with his spikes. Martinez then plunks Charlie Hayes‚ who charges the mound‚ and the brawling starts. Rock’s reliever Keith Shephard‚ a former boxer‚ throws at Cory Snyder in the 8th‚ then gestures him to come on. Brawl 2 and 2 more ejections. The Dodgers win‚ 12-4.
June 16Florida C Mitch Lyden becomes the 67th major league player to homer in his 1st at bat‚ doing so in the Marlins’ 6-4 loss to the Cubs.

Oakland OF Rickey Henderson steals his 24th base of the year in the Athletics’ 4-0 loss to the White Sox. The SB is the 1‚066th of his career‚ making him the world’s all-time leader‚ surpassing the total of 1‚065 of Yutaka Fukumoto‚ who played in Japan from 1970 to 1988.
June 17Giants OF Darren Lewis sets a major league record by playing his 243rd consecutive errorless game. It is the most ever by an OF at the start of his career. The Giants defeat the Reds‚ 5-1‚ as Bill Swift and Kevin Rogers combine to 1-hit Cincinnati. Kevin Mitchell‘s infield single leading off the 8th inning is the Reds’ only hit.

Cleveland 2B Carlos Baerga hits 3 HRs in the Indians’ 9-5 loss to Detroit. The Tigers hit 5 four-baggers of their own‚ including a pair each by Travis Fryman and Dan Gladden. Three players with 2 or more homers in a game ties an AL mark.

Texas OF Juan Gonzalez drives home 8 runs in the Rangers’ 18-2 win over the Angels. Gonzalez has a double and HR in his 4 hits. Strange has 4 hits and Canseco and Palmeiro also homer.

In Denver‚ the ML owners vote 26-2 to expand the playoffs for the first time in 25 years. With the change‚ 8 teams will qualify for post-season play.
June 18Montreal P Dennis Martinez records his 200th career victory‚ getting the decision in a 2-1 win over the Braves.

The Tigers defeat the Blue Jays on “Singles Night” at Tiger Stadium. Detroit gets 15 hits in the game-all singles.

Carlton Fisk of the White Sox‚ plays his 2‚226 and final ML game‚ surpassing Bob Boone’s record of 2‚225 for most games caught. Fisk reluctantly retires with 3‚999 total bases‚ the most ever for a catcher. The Sox will exacerbate Fisk’s bitterness by refusing to allow him into the locker room after the Sox make the playoffs this year. When the Sox retire Fisk #72 in 1997‚ Fisk will request that Jerry Reinsdorf and GM Ron Schueler not be there for the ceremony‚ and when he goes into Cooperstown he will wear a Red Sox cap. A clerical error about 3 games caught in 1981 in which Fisk relieved initially gives him a total of 2‚229 games caught. This error will appear on Fisk’s Hall of Fame plaque when he is inducted‚ the 5th edition of Total Baseball‚ and the 1997 edition of The Sports Encyclopedia-Baseball. Other records books such as the final edition of The Baseball Encyclopedia‚ the 1997 editions of The Sporting News Complete Baseball Record Book and the Elias Book of Baseball Records both correctly showed him with 2‚226 games caught lifetime. SABR historian Wayne McElreavy and others note the discrepancy and the plaque and subsequent editions of the record books have corrected the total to 2‚226.

July 13Players Association chief Donald Fehr says that if serious negotiations between the players and the owners don’t begin soon‚ the players could go out on strike in September‚ threatening the postseason.

A class action suit by two season ticket holders against the Padres is settled out of court. The suit argued that a preseason form letter from Padres president Dick Freeman stated that the team would be contenders because of its group of young stars‚ which the Padres then traded away. The Padres agreed to loosen their refund policy and the plaintiffs withdraw their demand that the team not trade Fred McGriff. McGriff goes within the week.
July 14The AL defeats the NL‚ 9-3‚ in the All-Star Game. Kirby Puckett‚ Roberto Alomar‚ and Gary Sheffield hit HRs‚ while the win goes to Jack McDowell. Craig Biggio is at 2B for the NL: last year he was on the team as a catcher‚ the first player ever to make it at those two positions. A highlight of the game is Randy Johnson firing a 95-MPH fastball over John Kruk’s head. Kruk bails out on the next two pitches‚ saying afterwards‚ he’s going to kill somebody.”

September 18The Yankees defeat the Red Sox‚ 4-3‚ because of a fan who runs out on the field. With NY trailing‚ 3-1‚ with 2 outs and a man on 1st in the 9th inning‚ Mike Stanley hits a fly ball to left that apparently ends the game. Umpire Tim Welke‚ however‚ had called time when the fan bolted onto the field‚ giving Stanley a second chance. He singled on the next pitch. October 3The Mets score 5 in the 9th and beat the Marlins‚ 9-2. Dwight Gooden raises his batting average to .200 with a pinch single in the 9th‚ while journeyman Chico Walker ends his major league career with a 9th inning 2-out solo homer off the Marlins’ Matt Turner. Walker will resurface as a replacement player in 1995‚ but will be released by the Padres on March 30th. Chuck Carr has his 58th stolen base to lead the NL.

Tommy Glavine outpitches David Nied and the Braves defeat the Rockies‚ 5-3‚ thus becoming the first NL team this century to sweep a season series from another team. Toronto’s 6-run rally in the 8th inning is capped by Devon White‘s 2-run triple‚ while Lenny Dykstra hits a pair of homers for the losers. The 29 runs in the WS eclipses the 22 scored in a 1936 WS game.
