Ballou took credit for Washington’s 1925 pennant when, in a crucial, late-season game with the Athletics, a ball hit up the middle caromed off his shin, resulting in a double play. His only solid ML season was 1926 with the Browns (11-10), but he pitched in the Pacific Coast League well into his forties.
