Touted early as “a Herb Score with control,” the burly lefthander received a $90,000 signing bonus from the Red Sox in 1952 and Sox owner Tom Yawkey nicknamed him “The Beau.” His only good year was 1960, when he went 13-6 for the White Sox with an AL-best 2.67 ERA.
