Mike Boddicker

Boddicker was outstanding in his first two ML seasons, baffling AL hitters with a collection of slow breaking balls. He was TSN AL Rookie Pitcher of the Year in 1983 and tied an LCS record with 14 strikeouts in a shutout win in the ’83 ALCS. As a sophomore, he led the AL in both wins (20) and ERA (2.79). After three more seasons as Baltimore’s most consistent starter, he was traded to the Red Sox in July 1988. He helped the Red Sox win the AL East by going 7-3 with a 2.63 ERA; he had been 6-12 with a 3.86 for the Orioles. He was 15-11, 4.00 in 1989 and gave up 217 hits in 211.2 innings, but won by holding opposing batters to a league-leading .212 batting average with runners in scoring position.
