Bonnell was a platoon outfielder with a good arm who would sometimes be among the league batting leaders during the season, but seldom at the end. An exception was 1983, when he hit .318 (10 HR and 54 RBI) for the Blue Jays. That December he was traded to Seattle for pitcher Bryan Clark.
