Daryl Boston

The lefthanded-hitting, 6’3″ 185-lb Boston was the White Sox’ first pick in the 1981 June draft. In 1984 he batted .312 in the American Association and led the league with 19 triples. In his debut with Chicago that May 13, he collected three hits before striking out. Over the next four seasons he shuttled between the majors and Triple-A, his occasional power not compensating for what was perceived as a lack of hustle in the outfield and aggressiveness at the plate. The White Sox’ new batting coach in 1989, Walt Hriniak, helped him raise his average 30 points, but Boston lost his power in the process.
