Briggs won 19 games for the 1904 Cubs but slumped to 8-8 the next year. By 1906 he was pitching semi-pro ball for Elyria of the Ohio Trolley League. His first pitch of that season was smashed for a homer by Wooster catcher Charles Follis, the first black pro football player.
