Hub Leonard

Hub was a sterling lefthander in the days of Red Sox greatness, although he never achieved a 20-win season. He threw two no-hitters and his 1.01 ERA in 1914 is the all-time top mark. In 1927, then a successful California grape grower, he made public two letters implicating Ty Cobb, Tris Speaker, and himself in a possibly fixed game in 1919. Other than resentment of his two former managers, his motive was unclear. When he refused to leave California to press his case, the two Hall of Famers were exonerated by Judge Landis.
