Nelson Liriano

Liriano was handed Toronto’s second base job at the beginning of 1988 but slumped badly at first and lost playing time to Manny Lee. He won it back in 1989 after Lee temporarily replaced injured shortstop Tony Fernandez. That April 22, Liriano broke up Nolan Ryan‘s bid for a sixth no-hitter with a ninth-inning triple; a week later, he broke up a Kirk McCaskill no-hitter in the ninth.
