Steve Lombardozzi

Lombardozzi was the second baseman for the 1987 World Champion Minnesota Twins, batting just .238 for the season but .412 (7 for 17) to lead all hitters in the World Series. As a rookie in 1986, he led AL second basemen with a .991 fielding percentage. But the Twins wanted more run production, and in April 1988 they traded slugger Tom Brunansky for the Cardinals’ Tommy Herr. When Herr did not pan out, the Twins acquired Wally Backman for 1989 and traded Lombardozzi to the Astros.
