Al Newman

A 5’9″ utility infielder who stole 63 bases in his first minor league season (Memphis, 1982), the switch-hitting Newman was used sparingly in Montreal. He saw more playing time after his 1987 trade to Minnesota. In 1988, he started at third base in 41 of the Twins’ last 45 games after Gary Gaetti was injured. Although he set a career high with 25 stolen bases the following year, he failed to top 13 in his final three seasons.
