Al Nipper

The junkballing Nipper was named the Red Sox’ Co-Rookie Pitcher of the Year, with pal Roger Clemens in 1984, when he went 11-6. Plagued by illness and injury, he never had another winning season for Boston. He lost his 1986 World Series start against the Mets, and was pounded in relief in Game Seven. After the 1987 season, he was traded with Calvin Schiraldi (who had lost Games Six and Seven) to the Cubs for reliever Lee Smith.
