Biff Pocoroba

Biff (his real name) first attracted attention when he threw out 11 straight runners in 1975 spring training. After a couple of promising seasons, he tore his rotator cuff. The injury ended his days as a full-time catcher and, after a brief trial at third base, made him primarily a pinch hitter. It also forced him to give up switch-hitting and bat exclusively righthanded.
